GLOSSARY > ROLE-BASED ACCESS CONTROL
Role-Based Access Control
A policy-neutral access-control mechanism defined around roles and privileges.
Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) ensures users only interact with AI systems within their defined operational boundaries. In an enterprise RAG system, RBAC must be propagated down to the Vector Database level to ensure the LLM cannot retrieve and synthesize documents that the user's role is not explicitly authorized to view.
